"support the continuing fight against terrorism in the United Kingdom and elsewhere". However, if we look at the aims of the Home office in the relevant documentation this is listed
as firstly to reduce illegal immigration, which is stated as having the aim of creating better community relations. The second aim is to counter terrorism threats and the third is
to reduce the potential for identity fraud and lastly to provide better delivery of public services. There are many problems with the concept of identity cards, these have not
been used in the UK since 1952 following the Second World War and as such these are resented by many of the public, seeing it as an aspect of big
brother, it may also be argued that there is a manipulation of hot political in order to support measures that will give government more information concerning citizens. When we
look at this from a practical perceptive the evidence that this will help reduce terrorism is weak, in the July bombing of 2005 the bombers were all UK citizens and
it is unlike that the holding of an ID card would have made any difference. In most cases all UK citizens will have some form of ID, such as a
passport or a driving licence that can be used as an effective form of identification. The main element of controversy over the ID cards is linked to the way they
