poetry. He is a poet whose words seem simple and direct, yet also a poet who speaks of many different things, both serious and humorous. The following paper examines the
life and work of Billy Collins. Billy Collins "Billy Collins was born in New York City in 1941. He is the
author of several books of poetry, including The Trouble with Poetry (2005); Nine Horses (2002); Sailing Alone Around the Room: New and Selected Poems (2001)" and many more (Apple Learning
Interchange 2007, 2007). He is also apparently a poet who records his own readings, and speaks at many different functions, also reading his poems. Aside from his own books
he has appeared in many different textbooks, periodicals, and anthologies (Apple Learning Interchange 2007, 2007). He has also been named the United States Poet Laureate (Apple Learning Interchange 2007, 2007).
There are many more titles he has been given and publications of which he has been a part but, in short, he has been published in many different publications and
he has been given many titles because of the power and popularity of his poetry. In terms of his style it appears as though one could see him in
many different ways. For example, one author illustrates how, "You can read a Billy Collins poem to someone who hates poetry and theyll laugh. They might even understand it without
having to read it twice" (Ascolese, 2007). This author illustrates that in this modern day and age when a great deal of poetry is being written and many people take
