Introduction Hard as it may be for many to believe, bilingual education continues
to receive substantial criticism in the national media. Moreover, staunch opponents of these types of programs have been identified as early as the1900s, when children of immigrants
entered schools in large numbers. In those days being raised in a bilingual home was seen as imminently deleterious to ones academic success. At
