history with different waves of citizens arriving increasing and enriching the towns social culture, the graveyard is a integral part of this history for local residents as a focus point
for personal history and respect for our ancestors that created and built the town, as well as a significant hospital point that traces much of the history for the community.
The plan to build a hospital is may be seen as a threat as the plan calls for the graveyard to be cleared, digging up those who are at
peace and moving them to a new site, an inconsiderate and profiteering strategy that will be traumatic and upsetting for many families who have relatives buried at the site, and
hoped themselves to be buried in that location. If we cannot respect the dead, what hope to we have to show respect and consideration to the living. It
is not only the emotional aspect disturbing the dead and the distressing of living relatives that is a threat, but the destruction of such an important historic site. Bilby has
had different waves of immigrants, from the discovery of gold and then tin, the Second World War and more recent changes can all be traced, making the site one that
not only documents history, but puts it in a meaningful context for the resident and visitors to the area. The graveyard is also on the tourist trails and as such
it an aid to revenue generated for tourism, although this is only a secondary interest. As a community we need to act
