purchasing property, they are usually very cautious. They want to make sure that they will not be harmed when entering into an agreement. More often than not, attorneys are involved
and look over the agreements. In general, contracts are formed where both parties make promises. In marriage, there are two individuals who enter into an arrangement where they share assets
to the extent that the law mandates, but there are further, contracts that will create a situation where there are additional rules. For example, it is now fashionable to create
prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. These are contracts that go along with marriage or divorce to set out specific rules. When one party is much wealthier than another, they will usually
want a prenuptial arrangement just in case the marriage ends in divorce. This way assets are kept in tact. This is an example of a bilateral contract because there are
promises on both sides of the fence. Sometimes, a man or woman will make a verbal commitment that can be thought of as a unilateral contract. They might say: "I
pledge that I will remain faithful to you, but if you are not ready, you can continue to see other people." The man makes a commitment by pledging unconditional love
with no expectation of reciprocation. By and large, despite the fact that some say such commitments are more spiritually desirable or genuine, bilateral agreements in law are safest. By and
