subsequently bought by Sumitomo Corporation of America, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota (Big O Tires, 2009). Big O Tires has more than 490 stores across 21 states and Canada, making
it the largest tire company in North America (Big O Tires, 2009). In the same year Big O was purchased by Sumitomo Corp., J.D. Powers and Associates named Big O,
the "Best Overall Replacement Tire in Customer Satisfaction for Passenger Vehicles" (Mozzone-Burgman, 2009). The company had to change its sales and marketing approaches during the late 1980s and early 1990s
as Wal-Mart and other large discount tire and services chains began opening (Mozzone-Burgman, 2009). The company promoted professionalism as a core ingredient in all they did (Mozzone-Burgman, 2009). They also
lowered their prices to compete with the discount stores and came up with a "Cost-U-Less" marketing program (Mozzone-Burgman, 2009). There is an overriding policy for employees which states: "Exceed your
customers expectations, and they will have no reason to shop anywhere else" (Mozzone-Burgman, 2009). The company tells franchisees to always select the right location, provide the training your employees need,
and continue to support employees (Mozzone-Burgman, 2009) so they will provide the excellent service for customers. The average employee turnover rate in the tire and services industry is 11
