a play about the American Dream and the inability to actually perceive the dream and find the dream. The play is primarily about Willy Loman, a salesman whose whole life
seems wasted. There are other characters who are, however, influenced and affected by the failure of Willy. These characters are his wife and his two sons, one of whom is
Biff. The following paper examines the character of Biff and discusses if his failure is the fault of Willy or not. Biff In understanding Biff better, and in
understanding whether or not Willy is to blame for Biffs failure, it is important to know something of Willy and his struggles. Willy has spent his life as a salesman,
expecting that hard work alone, hard work without intelligence, honor and integrity, will lead him to the American Dream, a dream he can pass on to his son Biff. Willy
is something of an ignorant man who believes that if he just works hard he will succeed. He does not understand the depth, the intelligence, and the creativeness that goes
into becoming successful. This is an attitude that is bound to have affected Biff in one way or another as fathers are often responsible for influencing the direction their child
takes in their own world. Even children who generally rebel against their parents will ultimately come to a point where they come back to the morals and beliefs possessed by
their parents. In light of this there is bound to be elements of Biff that were seen in Willy as well, thus perhaps indicating that some of Biffs failures were
