the world of academia and into the hands of such up and coming tinkerers as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. The 1980s saw its corporate debut as it went
forth and multiplied, soon proving itself to be a valuable business tool and quickly becoming a vital necessity to the offices of the world. It was not until the
past decade, however, that its growth began to accelerate at an unprecedented speed and it began to strain against its corporate confines and emerge into the world beyond that of
the nine to five. In the 1990s, computer technology began to spread its wings and take the first fledgling steps toward the realization of its full potential.
The mass production of affordable home-based personal computers coupled with the introduction of easily operated, low cost Internet access had by the mid-1990s opened the
door to a whole new avenue of progress for computer technology. The widespread use of home PCs and the popularity of this new and exciting form of communication and
entertainment gained tremendous momentum over the next five years and the number of users increased dramatically. By the late 1990s, most of the worlds population had been introduced to
the wonders of the World Wide Web and words such as download, upgrade, interface and hypertext had become common language among the masses. By the turn of the century,
the world had become somewhat accustomed to the lightening pace at which this new technology moved and changed, showing delight but little surprise at each new added innovation. But
