of dying includes denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and finally acceptance; this has been a theory that revolutionized the medical and academic worlds and also one that became entrenched in popular
culture (Robertson, 1999). Although Kubler-Ross analysis might hold true in some circumstances, this paradigm has come under sharp criticism in recent times. Michele Chaban for example says that the only
attitudes about dying in Kubler-Ross work are her own, suggesting that the pseudoscientific five-stage process on the chaotic, unpredictable agony of dying, was an attempt to conquer her own
fear of death (1999). Having the goal of acceptance negates the authenticity of ones own dying process (1999). To Chaban, dying is not easy or predicable (Robertson, 1999). In
looking at this authors ideas, one can say that almost anything is expected when someone is dying. However, the author goes on to say that Kubler-Ross acceptance model does not
accept the anger, and when a patient fights back, they are labeled as angry, depressed, or in denial (1999). Clearly, the dying process is unique and so is the way
in which people handle death. Much has to do with an individuals general philosophy of life and religious beliefs, in addition to personality. Yet, whatever theory one adopts, most people
do find that the process of death and dying can be very difficult for loved ones. People lose their parents or marital partners and suddenly, life is empty. The death
of a child is thought to be the worst thing that could happen to anyone. People die every day and leave loved ones in the present life to cope with
