a people. It presents us with the ideal hero who, although incredibly brave and strong, does not seem overly egotistical. He is simply a man who is performing his role
in the world, following his destiny and providing hope for a culture. Throughout this work we see people who cannot take matters into their own hands, people who are fearful
in the face of danger, and people who rely on Beowulf to be their hero. In the following paper we examine lines 2860-2879 of the classic tale, illustrating how these
relatively few lines offer a powerful glimpse into the culture of the people and the moral of the story. 2860-2879 The story of Beowulf is, as mentioned, one
of a warrior who is righteous and not overly ridden with a grand ego. Beowulf is merely a man doing his duty to his people, and perhaps to all people.
His is a tale of the power of one man, one mans fate, and the fate of a people. Through his fame, and his ability, we note that Beowulf is
also subject to the power of fate in a very powerful way. His fate leads him to the lines of the story to be discussed. In these lines he
lays dead. No individual has truly come to help him save for one youth, Wiglaf. In these particular lines we note the following: "Grim was the answer, easy to get,
from the youth for those that had yielded to fear! Wiglaf spake, the son of Weohstan, -- mournful he looked on those men unloved:-- Who sooth will speak, can say
indeed that the ruler who gave you golden rings and the harness of war in which ye stand" (2860-2867). In this we see a position wherein Wiglaf is chiding
