The following paper examines Benjamin Franklin and his discovery of electricity. The paper also discusses his political contribution to the nation. Benjamin Franklin and Electricity Benjamin Franklin was actually
quite a successful businessman in many regards, a focus that began with he and his wife and later he had a printing business. He was about 43 years old when
he decided that he would essentially retire from running a business and he turned his attentions to truly inventing and discovering things.
Research and inventions and discovery were not something new to Franklin for he was an intelligent man with a very curious nature. By this time in his life he had
already invented numerous things: "In 1743, he had already invented a heat-efficient stove -- called the Franklin stove -- to help warm houses efficiently. As the stove was invented to
help improve society, he refused to take out a patent. Among Franklins other inventions are swim fins, the glass armonica (a musical instrument) and bifocals" (Quick Biography of Benjamin Franklin,
2005). It is interesting to note that Benjamin Franklin often invented things that he felt were good for all people and thus should really be free for everyone. This
is why he did not take out patents and try to control the direction his inventions would take. He was already a successful businessman and likely did not need any
more money and felt his discoveries should be shared with all people, improving their lives. It was in the early 1750s that Franklins attention turned to electricity. His friend
