persist to this day. But all of this benevolent cherishment of American ideals does indeed find its roots in the countrys early history and in the visions of its
founders. For the United States was founded upon a dream; It is a dream that changes materially to adapt to an era; But it is a dream that has
barely been altered in theme. This is the American Dream...To men like Benjamin Franklin, that dream was one of a "new start," of genuine freedom, and of the ability
for anyone to achieve; For America would be a land in which even the Middle Class could prosper and win notoriety. The common man would be able to enjoy
some luxuries previously only experienced by royalty in England. This was the American Dream... Franklin did indeed start life within the moderate shallows Americas
middle class. Born in Boston, baptized in a local church, and educated at some of the local schools, he certainly did not have any more or less of an
opportunous advantage than the typical middle-class citizen. But from an early age, he was a hard worker. As a child, Franklin seemed ready, willing, and at times even
eager to work. This genuine willingness to be productive clearly served as a primal ingredient in his success. By the age of 10, young Benjamin served as his
fathers assistant in the tallow chandlery business and two years later he was an apprentice to his brother James, who was a printer. To the
commoner of the old world, these occupations would have typically been enough. Men knew their place and did not strive to go far above the ranks of laymen.
