foremost. There are many programs that are designed to instill an understanding of English in the minds of the students, often at the cost of reducing their native language. While
this may make sense to some, it is a process that forces a particular kind of assimilation that is not always conducive for growth or learning. And, at the same
time many parents are attempting to teach their children at least one other language, aside from English, with the knowledge that bilingual education is beneficial in many ways.
In essence, it appears as though the mainstream education system of the nation is attempting to do away with all but the English language
(until the student reaches high school and can take an elective language course) and the upper education systems, primarily those of private schools and those systems possessed of wealth, are
instilling the need to learn at least one other language besides English. In the end the truth is that a bilingual education is incredibly helpful and positive in many respects.
As such it is something that should be embraced and encouraged, not reduced to realms outside education. With this information in mind the following paper examines some of the many
