the pursuance of both routes of recruitment. If we look at internal recruitment we need to look at how the internal about market operates within a firm. The internal labour
market is defined as a market where "the pricing and allocation of labour is governed by a set of administrative rules and procedures" (Doeringer and Piore, 1971: 1).The internal market
is a different structure of labour, but does have do some similarities, however it appears to depart from the central market in behaviour characteristics for example, supply and demand in
terms of the labour supply and wages is less emphasised. The key characteristics are the limited access of the external market to the market where labour is being traded, this
usually reduces the access to that market to external actors. The use of internal staff is more prevalent in term of promotion, there are often specifically in house training schemes,
where jobs will be specific to that organisation. These may be very specialised jobs or jobs where there are few alternative recruitment sources.
The aim of the use of the internal labour market is often to ensure long term employment, following investment in the employee by the employer. This is why the
