Frederick Winslow Taylor where there was the need for people to work together in order to produce goods (Taylor, 1999). This level of teamwork was often minimal due to the
impact created as a result of the low trust, high supervision environment. Teamwork has moved forward since that time, concepts of empowerment, discretion and the use of motivation techniques has
improved the way teams perform (Huczynski and Buchanan, 2007). Their potential uses and applications have increased an expanding and with increased communication technology and a shift towards the virtual environment
the potential uses for international teams, has increased significantly. When looking at the benefits and challenges of international teams many of the same issues seen in more traditional teamwork are
present, as well as additional influences. A team may be defined as "number of persons associated in some joint action" (Dictionary.com, 2009). The concept of value behind teamwork is the
way that the knowledge and experience of the group are brought together will create value to a greater level that if the team members were as individuals alone or in
a group. The team members bring diversity that is seen in both the inputs and the transformation process that are undertaken, different members may have different ideas and the ability
of the team to work together creates value. When applied in an international environment the benefits can be enhanced with the increased level of divergence, different cultures and practices which
may add to the level and richness of data used where there are decision to be made, but this may also result in challenges where there are misunderstandings. Models, such
as Hofestedes cultural dimensions indicate the way that there may be differences; power distance, individualism /collectivism, masculinity/femininity and uncertainty avoidance (Hofestede, 2003). Those from a collective environment may find the
