it is a violation of civil rights. Yet, common sense along with the experience of some other nations says it does work. We all know certain facts about the terrorists
who attached America on September 11, 2001. They were young, male, Middle Eastern and Islamic extremists. This same profile was evidenced in attacks in London. We also know that the
terrorists who attacked America, London, and other places were members of al Qaeda. We also know that bin Laden, the head of al Qaeda, declared war on the United States
and other Western countries and his followers are primarily Middle Eastern (Chertoff). We all know that the profiling has been used for bad purposes, consider the Jews in German,
Poland and other countries during World War II and we know that it has been used inappropriately in the country. People seem to forget that profiling was the basis of
affirmative action programs. Goldston also commented that profiling is used by insurance companies, government agencies and others to predict what an individual will do. People also forget or do not
know that profiling helps our intelligence and law enforcement officials catch perpetrators of heinous crimes. Individuals who commit certain types of crimes typically share common personality characteristics. Individuals who choose
to become terrorists also share certain characteristics, traits, and backgrounds. One of the challenges in arguing for the practice of profiling is that so little is written to support
it. Data is unavailable because our intelligence and law enforcement agencies do not publicize the crimes and terrorist acts they have prevented. In reality, the average citizen has absolutely no
