consequence of their trading empires in non-European regions. The wealth is obvious, but the fact that it was accomplished through its trading empires is somewhat scandalous. Of course, it had
been a situation that was well accepted at the time. And so when the Pope would create new boundaries in the world and give a portion of land to Portugal
and another to Spain, that was an exercise of the power of the position as Pope. It should be noted, and it had been pointed out in the Bendini work,
that not everyone stood idly by. In fact, many would protest against the Popes role and lavish lifestyle. The nations involved were quite interested in overseas explorations, going to the
new world, finding new trade passages and it seems as if there was a benefit for European monarchy as well. Yet, the bulk of the wealth did not come from
the Americas, at least not during that time period. Still, areas like Africa would add a great deal to the already established wealth of European monarchy. Certainly, trade took on
added significance at the time and one might compare this to globalization in recent days. After all, many of the same benefits were reaped. There did seem to be
an exercise of wealth and power due more to the consequence of their trading empires in non-European regions than anything else. One only has to look at Europes influence
in Eurasia and Africa to see that during the time period, the European monarchs were in charge. The explorations abroad proved lucrative and when all is said and done, the
