a sense of humor. It is a story for young children, intended to make them smile as well as keep them entertained and teach them something. In Liddells book we
are provided with a story whose message is that everyone is different and that accepting oneself, and others, is very important. The following paper examines how Liddells book gets this
message across and how she uses various elements to make the book enjoyable. Being Big In this story we have the little girl Barbara. Barbara is big. She
is not necessarily fat, but is a little girl who has big feet, big hands, and is generally bigger than all the other kids her age. She weighs more, but
it is not that she is fat, in an obese manner, but just simply big. This is the premise of the story and the foundation upon which the message of
the story is set. Barbara is, as would be assumed, incredibly unhappy with her size because she is not like the other children. She even tries to exercise so that
she will lose some inches somewhere, but this only results in her getting bigger. In this we can see that Barbara is a positive role model for she is trying
to do something about her problem, but as we can see, it is not something that can be fixed, and we learn it is not something that needs to be
fixed. Throughout this little story we are, first off, offered these incredible illustrations that are intensely colorful and lively. This is one of the most important tools in keeping a
childs attention, especially a young child. And, even though Liddell likely wrote the story without the illustrator in mind, or at least without knowing what the pictures would ultimately look
