of a population do not necessarily equate with true liberty. So, what does constitute a legitimate democracy? Conservatives, liberals, Democrats and Republicans all lay claim to being the heirs to
the traditions of the founding fathers. The student researching this topic seeks to examine two separate issues: what democracy means to the student personally; and secondly, how the current conservative
Republican administration is a threat to those principles. This writer/tutor, of course, cannot presume to say how issues, such as the economy, the environment, social responsibility, etc., affect the
student researching this topic. All I can relate is my own viewpoint, which is that of a middle-aged American woman and mother of two draft-age sons. Our society is

fully-fledged human beings in their own right. In America, there is the presumption, updated from the eighteenth century, that all human beings, women included, are equal and should have equal
