which autistic children can better communicate V. Conclusion VI. Bibliography INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH Autistic children are unable to learn and communicate in the
same ways that society expects one to learn and communicate, inasmuch as their thought processes do not follow the same logical progression as others. Because of this severe limitation,
it is imperative for an autistic individual to be able to learn and express himself with the help of four primary methods involving a biochemical, neurosensory, psycho-dynamic and/or behavioral approach
that circumvent the frustration typically experienced through traditional approaches (Frea et al, 2001). A growing consensus of beneficial ways in which to teach autistic children believes that applied behavior
analysis (ABA) and discrete trial training offer a substantial foundation upon which overall learning is better approached. Such issues as low motivation, limited reinforcement repertoire, short attention span, distraction,
slower learning, difficulty grasping abstract concepts, poor observational learning, poor differentiation between relevant and irrelevant stimuli, and sensory/motor impairments represent the foundation upon which applied behavior analysis was established (Heflin
et al, 2001). REFERENCES Frea, William D.; et al (2001). A Demonstration of the Effects of Augmentative Communication on the Extreme Aggressive Behavior of a Child With Autism
