an issue that is not just isolated to the United States but one that intricately links the United States with Europe and with Canada in relationship to imports, research, and
essentially shared concerns. As with any controversial health issue there are often two sides to the issue of hormones in beef. There are many, primarily those in the cattle
industry, who argue that the hormones used are perfectly safe, and then those who argue, based on research, that hormones are responsible for many health concerns. With that in mind
the following paper examines the beef hormone controversy and the effects of hormones in beef. Beef Hormones: The Controversy As mentioned, the concerns surrounding hormones is something that
involves more than the United States for Canada and Europe are also deeply involved in the controversy. In looking at this controversy this section primarily offers up one article that
addresses the concerns that are perhaps at the bottom of the controversy globally speaking. In the article, titled NCBA Applauds USTR Action In Beef Hormones Dispute and written by
the Cattle Industry (2008), the author notes that the "NCBA [National Cattlemens Beef Association] has been working closely with industry and USTR [United States Trade Representative] for the past several
years to resolve this dispute to the satisfaction of U.S. beef producers" (Cattle Industry, 2008). This working together involves trade disputes involving the fact that the European Union (EU) holds
that hormones are bad for human consumption and thus their refusal to accept a great deal of American grown beef is costing America a great deal of money (Cattle Industry,
