that are unknown to many. In Jeff Sypecks work, Becoming Charlemagne, the author focuses on only a few years of his life and brings this legendary figure to life in
many ways. The following paper offers a review of this book. Becoming Charlemagne by Jeff Sypeck It is often assumed of
ancient kings and leaders that they are ruthless and fully empowered with many capabilities in terms of ruling kingdoms. They are generally not viewed as necessarily, kind or compassionate individuals,
but ruthless and obsessed individuals. In the case of Charlemagne it seems that he possessed some of these qualities but that he was really a unique ancient leader in relationship
to caring about people, intelligence, depth, and a vision of the future for many people. He was not simply a man who was obsessed with power, or at least this
is the impression given when reading Sypecks work. His rule, considering that Sypeck only speaks of a few years of his life,
seemed incredibly successful, especially considering that his legacy is still powerful today. However, it also appears as though there were many individuals, according to Sypecks work, that kept him from
truly achieving many of his dreams as a ruler. It appears as though he was thwarted in efforts to unite the Eastern world with the Western Christian world, but his
