Beauty appears to be a recognizable quality in some senses of basic understanding. For example, models in a fashion magazine appear to depict beauty as it can be
defined by some specific characteristics: small waists, round eyes, pouty lips and the proper clothing. At the same time, any of these characteristics taken out of the context
of a fashion magazine may not appear to represent beauty. Just a quick glance at some of the fashions that are considered to be the center of the American
ideal of beauty underscore the belief that what can be asserted as beauty is clearly defined within the progression of societal factors. But is this beauty? Are the
strange fashion industry trends representative of the ideal of beauty? These are questions that must be answered in order to consider this topic as a whole. It can be
argued that these are not elements of beauty, but instead are factors defined by culture, and that the "beauty" represented in the fashion industry is instead simply fashion. Beauty
itself does not have to be defined within the scope of fashion because fashion itself is only a development of cultural determinants. Instead, beauty is something more ethereal and
less plastic. And so it is possible to turn to art to determine if beauty is a subjective or objective quality of an object or person. But
again, art is defined within a cultural context, and what one culture, one ethnic group might consider beauty in terms of art, another might find repulsive or deviant. Beauty
