joint stock company under the name of "Farbenfabriken vorm. Friedr. Bayer & Co" (Bayer, History, 2004). The companys workforce grew from three employees to 300 between 1863 and 1881 (Bayer,
History, 2004). By 1913, Bayer was a chemical company that boasted international operations (Bayer, History, 2004). It also opened new divisions but at that time, dyestuffs was still their largest
operation (Bayer, History, 2004). What helped the companys growth was the establishment of research capability by Carl Duisberg (Bayer, History, 2004). This led to numerous products, including the "drug of
the century," Aspirin, developed by Felix Hoffmann and which was put on the market in 1899 (Bayer, History, 2004). The wars had devastating effects on the company but through a
series of mergers, the company became Farbenfabriken Bayer AG in December 1951 (Bayer, History, 2004). Bayer Groups headquarters are in Leverkusen, Germany (Partheymuller, 2004). This is a vast international corporation;
Partheymuller commented: "You could get a headache trying to name all of the Bayer Groups products" (2004). A little play on their most famous product, aspirin. Partheymuller lists their many
products: "health care products (diagnostic equipment and pharmaceuticals), agricultural products (crop protection and animal health), chemicals (basic and fine chemicals), and specialty materials (plastics, synthetic rubber)" (2004). In the U.S.,
