that would be likely to be found in Bay City include dentists, emergency medical services personnel, midwives, physicians and psychologists (Office of health professionals regulation, 2010). Dentists and dental hygienists
fall under the Board of Examiners in Dentistry. This body ensures that all dentists practicing in Rhode Island "meet the requirements for licensure and comply with the applicable conditions and
regulations of the law" (Board of examiners in dentistry, 2010). The board oversees annual license renewal, which is contingent upon complying with continuing education, having the proper equipment and so
on; it also investigates complaints (Board of examiners in dentistry, 2010). In addition, the board conducts inspections of "dental offices and dental credentials for those dentists administering nitrous oxide" (Board
of examiners in dentistry, 2010). Emergency medical services personnel (EMTs) fall under the Division of Emergency Medical Services, which, along with the "Ambulance Service Advisory Board" has the responsibility for
planning, developing and administering a "comprehensive statewide plan for emergency medical services" (Division of emergency medical services, 2010). This department not only establishes "minimum standards for licensing, vehicles, equipment for
vehicles, personnel, training, communications and the treatment of acutely ill or injured persons by ambulance and rescue personnel," it is also responsible for collecting and analyzing data from three other
