also be styles and approaches which are pushing forward the boundaries and challenging traditional ideas. This latter approach is more controversial and likely to attract criticism, but time will tell
if the challenging ideas are eventually adopted, remain isolated or simply fade into insignificance. One such school is Bauhaus, it was certainly controversial at the time, but today may
be reflected in as a reflection of the social changes that were occurring and a designer reaction to those changes, developing into an established design approach that typifies modernism. The
approach, which started in Germany, spread worldwide, seen in many areas, including the high rise buildings in the US. It is only by looking at this school and its developments
that the way in which it was a development within, as well as a driving force for further development in the modernism movement. Looking at these aspects of Bauhaus will
facilitate consideration of the high rise building which are still impacting on architectural design toady at the same time are remaining controversial but remains a symbol of modernism. When consider
the term modern, until recently the use of the term modern, and the associated modernism would relate to something of that time. The term modern has been used for many
centuries; it is even used by Cennino Cennini in 1437 when he describes Giotto as making painting modern1. There is also the term modern used by many of the renaissance
