analysis is the starting point for strategic thinking. By definition analysis is "A. The separation of an intellectual or material whole into its constituent parts for individual study. B. The
study of such constituent parts and their interrelationships in making up a whole." (Dictionary.com, 2008). In order for this to take place there needs to be the ability to gather
all of the relevant data to be used and then there will need to be some type of system or approach that used in the study of the data.
There are a number of potential problems or barriers to the process of analysis for strategic thinking. Urbany and Montgomery, (1998), argue that the
entire process of strategic thinking is not a natural process, it is a learned process. The problem with strategic thinking and the process of analysis are the individual natural biases
which interfere with the process (Urbany and Montgomery, 1998). There may be natural biases which are the result of cultural or personal circumstances which influence not only the analysis process
but also the judgment regarding what input should be used in the analysis process, which will limit the potential outcomes by limiting the inputs. In most decision making models there
is the acceptance that for any scenarios it is unlikely that all of the relevant information regarding the situation can be used in the analysis, some may not be available,
or available within a reasonable use of resources, some may not be known or recognized as needed and the issue of bounded rationality will also be an influence. The personal
biases simply build on these constraints (Urbany and Montgomery, 1998). When there is a large amount of potential data and analysis is complex there can be a paralyzing impact if
