throwback attitudes of over two hundred years ago when the notion of slavery was too powerful to be abolished merely by several mens signatures on a momentous legislative document.
To this stench of racial intolerance Obama noted how mass media became rubberneckers in the virtual fast lane on the road to every exit poll to try and identify a
presence of racial polarization among whites, blacks as well as browns. This, in the end, is what the presidential campaign came down to - would a black American president
be the ultimate assignment of affirmative action? Obamas comments about the experience of black people in America are what some may call stereotypical while others would consider them a reflection
of a highly divergent culture. The church, Obama notes, is the central component of the black experience throughout history, inasmuch as it represents every aspect of black heritage.
Religion embodies the black way of life from the very first moment slavery came into existence; through faith, blacks were able to endure the inhumanity they suffered as a pawn
to the white man. As such, the church was often the only place of solace, the only place where they could express themselves freely and without fear of retribution.
