Smoking in Restaurants The first point of the argument the student could take is as follows: "There is no risk-free level of exposure
to secondhand smoke" (Michigan Smoke-Free Dining and Workplace Petition Drive, 2009). This essentially means that no matter what amount of second hand smoke a person is exposed to it is
a harmful reality. People do not need to be exposed to such a danger when they are eating out, if for no other reason than it is distasteful. But, when
one adds onto that the fact that any amount of second hand smoke is detrimental the problem becomes even worse. People have the right to smoke if they desire to
do so but they do not have the right to put others at risk, such as would be the case with smoking in restaurants.
There are many individuals who argue that with the proper ventilation system smoking would not cause any problems for those who do not smoke. They argue that the
dangers of second hand smoke would not exist in such a case. However, "Even the most sophisticated ventilation systems cannot completely eliminate secondhand smoke exposure and that only smoke-free environments
afford full protection" (Michigan Smoke-Free Dining and Workplace Petition Drive, 2009). So, no matter what is done, it seems that no system can adequately or even completely remove the elements
of second hand smoke. And, as noted in the previous argument point, even the smallest amount of second hand smoke can prove incredibly detrimental. As such people cannot argue that
