some background on Albert Bandura himself and the "bobo doll" experiment for which he is famous. Bandura is a very important figure in behavioral psychology and the experiment is
a milestone in the field. As to his social learning theory, well answer specific questions. First, how many phenomena does the theory address? The word "phenomena" is an
odd and imprecise term and Im not sure what it means in this context and it seems advisable for the student to ask for clarification. But heres a concise
definition of the theory: "Social learning theory explains human behavior in terms of continuous reciprocal interaction between cognitive, behavioral and environmental influences" (Social learning theory). That is, Banduras
theory explains human behavior in terms of continual interactions among thought, behavior and environment. In order to learn by observation, four components are necessary: the observer has
to pay attention to what hes seeing (attention); he has to remember what hes seen (retention); he has to be able to repeat it (reproduction); and he has to be
motivated to repeat it (motivation) (Boeree, 1998). Can the theory explain new things? Yes, very easily. Since Bandura has shown that people, particularly children, can learn
new behavior simply by watching it, its reasonable to turn the theory around and say that if someone is exhibiting new behavior theyve seen it somewhere. It doesnt require
