basically the U.S. felt they were being cheated out of a great deal of the banana trade due to the EUs stance that much of their supply would come from
previous colonies. This angered the U.S. who claimed that this constituted unfair trade practices. The response of the U.S. in turn angered the EU who claimed they were doing
nothing unfair and, in fact, were helping countries dependent on this trade since they continued to buy from them. The EU argued that if the U.S. got its way,
these countries would be the innocent victims of globalization. It turned out that the WTO stood behind the U.S. in this matter, thereby creating some very unusual precedent.
