for that same vision. In most circumstances, such a leader gathers his or her skills from both transactional and transformational practices. Both styles have been criticized nearly as much as
they are praised. That fact alone should demonstrate to the student studying this issue that it is one that requires a middle ground in which one style does not overpower
the other. Too often, transactional leadership is only thought of as being the one which is based on making certain exchanges between the leader and the led and revolving around
control and rewards for "positive" behavior and punishment for the negative. In comparison, a transformational leader attempts to inspire people to take action that fall in line with his or
her own goals. The supposed or intended result is one in which people perform beyond expectation and have a high degree of personal motivation. Clearly, there can be positive and
negative aspects of both styles and there impact on people. The Making of a Leader Leadership is not an attitude of style or some sort of business "disguise." Rather
it is a state of being in which the ultimate conclusion is the melding of multiple agendas, personalities, and motivation toward a single and common goal. Successful leadership is
the result of one person or a team that has the ability and willingness to envision the possible contributions of all persons, regardless of gender, ethnicity, or other measure of
