a somewhat different way from its BRIC counterparts. From an economic perspective, Brazil has the enviable position of being the most effective in Latin America (Brazil). Beginning in 2003, Brazil
worked toward improving its macroeconomic stability, which involved building up its foreign reserves and reducing its debt profile by moving the debt burden toward real denominated and domestic financial instruments
(Brazil). Brazil has also worked on its inflation, while focusing on fiscal responsibility - the end result being that, in 2008, two ratings agencies awarded investment-grade status to the countrys
debt (Brazil). This is not to say that all is rosy in this country - record growth in 2007 and 2008 was followed by the global financial crisis, which hit
Brazils currency and its stock market (Brazil). The country experienced a declining foreign investment as well as two quarters of a recession - but Brazil was one of the first
emerging markets to start its recovery (Brazil). The Central Bank anticipates a GDP growth of 5% for 2010 (Brazil). FDI has been attractive in Brazil, not so much because of
its terrific currency or government moves, but rather, because of growing consumer demand (Felisoni de Angelo et al 203). Inflation and exchange rates are certainly important, but overall, the consumer
markets evolution is the largest magnet for current and potential FDI (Felisoni de Angelo et al 203). How does all of this compare to the United States? The U.S. GDP
puts it at 160th in the world, while Brazil stands at 117 in the world, though when it comes to purchasing power parity, the U.S. has Brazil beat (U.S. is
