fishing and tourism industry hasnt been determined, but its likely going to be huge. Though people are pointing fingers at the Minerals Management Services of the U.S. government for being
lax in its oversight in the area of deep sea oil drilling, this mess is ultimately BPs responsibility. As a result, from a moral and ethical standpoint, it is BPs
mess to clean up. How can we say this when there are other parties involved (such as Transocean, which built the rig, and
Halliburton, which managed it?). McClenahen, in 2005, pointed out that corporate social responsibility, especially in the manufacturing sector, involves more than simply writing out a check or two to charity.
It involves stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility for ensuring that society, and people, are protected and that activities of the organization offer no harm to society as
a whole. Because BPs Deepwater Horizon plan made certain assumptions (namely that a spill of that magnitude would never happen and if a
spill did happen that the ocean would take care of it and finally that the rig was so far out, it wouldnt have any impact on land), the Deepwater Horizon
fiasco lacked planning for failure, focusing more on a failure to plan. "The refusal to contemplate failure clearly came straight from the top," writes activist and reporter Naomi Klein, somewhat
