better known as the BP oil spill, in the Gulf of Mexico experienced an oil gusher from the sea floor that created a massive explosion. The explosion off the
coast of Louisiana killed 11 people and left dozens injured. The spill, which was blocked with a mechanical cap on July 30, leaked approximately 200 million gallons of oil into
the Gulf over a three-month span. Categorized as the largest oil spill in United States history, White House energy adviser Carol Browner said that about 75 percent of the
oil has been captured, burned off, evaporated or broken down in the Gulf of Mexico. "The long battle to stop the leak and contain the oil is finally coming
to an end," President Barak Obama said recently before a meeting of the AFL-CIO executive committee in Washington, D.C Nonetheless, an unfathomable amount of sea life has been killed and
the beautiful blue and white Florida beaches have been infested with tar balls and muddy waters for the last three months. In addition, tourism in these beach destinations has plummeted
as summer vacationers decided to visit cities on the Atlantic Ocean instead. In addition, numerous lawsuits have been filed against BP, including a $10 billion class-action lawsuit
