such a thing could happen, and angry that petrol company BP could let it happen. The explosion itself, and the finger-pointing reactions of BP executives in the aftermath make for
a pitiful picture of a corporate giant; and also make one wonder if this company has any kind of ethical code. The
answer to this question is yes - BPs communications department has done a very good job of promoting the fact that BP does have a definite ethical system that it
follows. The problem is, the system is nothing more than PR fluff; given the companys recent history, it seems as though the code itself is as useless as the paper
on which it is printed. Overview - BP BP has recently been best known as the company that allowed its rig to
explode in the Gulf of Mexico, and is currently the author of the millions of barrels of oil that continues to gush into the Gulfs deep waters. When it isnt
trying to clean up a major, multibillion-dollar environmental hazard, BP explores for oil and gas in 30 countries (Hampton, 2010). The company drills, extracts, refines, distributes and sells oil and
gas throughout the world (Hampton, 2010). Furthermore, since 2006, BP has invested $4 billion to develop green energy solutions, such as wind and solar power (Hampton, 2010).
According to BPs website, the company relies more on a values statement than a mission statement. The value statement, therefore is as follows: "In all
our activities we seek to display some unchanging, fundamental qualities - integrity, honest dealing, treating everyone with respect and dignity, striving for mutual advantage and contributing to human progress."
