Warren (professor of accounting at the University of Georgia); James M. Reeve (professor of accounting at the University of Tennessee) and Philip E. Fess (professor emeritus of accounting at University
of Illinois). While overall, the textbook itself is quite similar to other accounting textbooks (in that it explains everything from "what
is accounting" all the way to accounting cycles, revenue statements and so on), there are a few issues that this book focuses on that brings it into the 21st century.
The two chapters early on that might hit close to home, especially as it pertains to corporate scandals both throughout the United
States and the rest of the world are business ethics and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Business ethics, as can be imagined, points out the important role of accounting and
accountants in fairly (and accurately) reporting the correct expenses and incomes - we all have learned whats happened when this fails to happen. GAAP, on the other hand, provides a
guide on how this can be done (at least in the U.S. and among other countries that follow GAAP principles), as GAAP provides a list of various principles that keep
all businesses accounting methods the same across the board. Although there are some differences between GAAP and International Accounting Principles (IAP), which many different countries employ, the world is moving
more toward GAAP standards in order to conduct businesses more ethically and honestly (at least as it pertains to reporting of accounting matters.
