business climate. Their book, Leading with Soul, engages the reader in the real life struggles of Steve, a businessman who has forgotten that he even has a soul. All Steve,
like so many in the business world, knows is that he seems incomplete, lost, and he hates his job. Leading with Soul does not promise to make anyones life easier
or their job more satisfactory, but what it does leave the reader with are some step by step procedures that one can incorporate into ones own life to bring meaning
into each facet of existence. Those four gifts of leadership include: Love, power, authorship, and significance. LOVE It has been said that love has the power to make the world
go around. Perhaps, according to Bolman and Deal, there is some validity to this old adage. "Leaders with soul bring spirit to their organizations," the authors state(Bolman, Deal 6). Very
much in keeping with the love thy neighbor concept, Leading with Soul illustrates that love, in this sense, is a type of caring. It is a caring that wants to
know about a person, beyond what their particular capabilities as a worker are. It is a caring that that accepts even the unlovely aspects of a person and places them
in an overall contextual reference. This type of caring, they urge, must be sincere in order for it to work as a gift.
What this asks the leader to do is to become involved emotionally to some extent with the individual worker. This, one could see, is asking quite a great deal
of modern administrators because it asks the executive to place themselves in a position of vulnerability which may be mistaken as weakness or prying on the workers part. Genuine caring
