employees and organizational cultures. Boeing is an organization that continues struggling with two types of cultures in the wake of its acquisition
of McDonnell Douglas during the late 1990s. It is moving, albeit slowly, from a culture in which a bunch of engineers get together to manufacture the latest cutting edge technology
in aerospace, into a culture that must meet the competition in the form of rival Airbus, to name just one serious competitor. On top of that, Boeing has also been
rocked by scandal of inter-office affairs and corruption in terms of the bidding process. We mention these because sometimes the "rewards" in a program arent necessarily tangible, but are assurances
that things will be a bit more stable in the future. Having said that, on the positive side of the coin, Boeing
is a company that is a huge believer in knowledge learning and organizational transformation -- its a company that invests a great deal in terms of ensuring that its employees
are well-trained and can advance in their positions (Anonymous, 2003). No matter what the level, a Boeing employee has the opportunity to better him or herself and to challenge him/herself
with a new position, through training. This is where leadership comes in with knowledge management -- with the support of high quality leadership, knowledge management can help transform the organization
into a competitive one (Anonymous, 2003). Because of the atmosphere at Boeing, intangible rewards tend to be stronger than the financial ones
