on December 15, 1791, the amendments outline basic rights accorded to U.S. citizens. In some cases, however, these rights run counter to what might be considered viable when it comes
to security, justice and law enforcement. The Amendments The First Amendment, one that seems to get play when it comes to "separation of
church and state" or the right to air opinions on the Internet, forbids Congress from making a law that establishes a state religion or that prevents freedom of speech or
freedom of the press (as well as granting citizens the right to assemble) (First Amendment, 2012). The Fourth Amendment, in the meantime, grants the right for protection against "unreasonable"
searches and seizures (Fourth Amendment, 2012). The Fifth Amendment offers the concept of due process, and forbids a defendant from being tried
twice for the same crime (Fifth Amendment, 2012). Due process guarantees just about everyone a fair hearing if theyve committed a crime. Along
those lines, the Sixth Amendment provides the right to a speedy trial, and the right for the accused to confront his or her witness, as well as to find witnesses
in his or her favor (Sixth Amendment, 2012). Finally we have the Fourteenth Amendment. Though not part of the original Bill of Rights, this amendment further described the definition of
citizenship, focused on equal protection under the law, and reintroduced the due process clause, which means governments are not allowed to deprive an individual of life, liberty or property without
