manner. The following paper offers an example of a Best Practices Manual for Supervisors. In this model, well examine specific issues
that a supervisor will face in his/her career, and point out guidelines to help the supervisor toward optimal behavior and effectiveness. Communication Skills
At one time in the workforce, a supervisors communication skills boiled down to one thing: "I talk, you listen." This worked fine when companies measured wealth by
output (i.e., through assembly lines and quotas of units). But these days, organizations are responsible for so much more. Along with the product (assuming the organization manufactures a specific product)
comes the intangibles; customer service, added value, and so on. As a result, communication skills of a supervisor have gone from "I
talk, you listen" to "I talk, you talk, and well both listen." In other words, supervisors are responsible for communicating clear guidelines, with the idea that if there are any
