been in negotiation with Main Line to star in the film, but withdrew from the project. "Boxing Helena" involved a woman injured
in a car accident, whose rescuing doctor ends up worse than the accident itself by amputating her arms and legs and keeping her hostage in hopes she would fall in
love with him. Baisinger testified in the court case that she withdrew from the starring role (she was replaced by Sherilyn Fenn) because of concerns about the character and adult
scenes (i.e., nudity). Main Line, however, had potential pre-sales distribution agreements based on Baisingers participation to the tune of $3 million domestic and
$7.6 million foreign. When Fenn came on board, the lesser-known actress attracted $2.7 million in foreign pre-sales agreement and no domestic distributor at the time of the trial. Main Lines
contention was that it incurred financial damages from Basingers withdrawal from the project. The difficulty with this case (and with any case in
which an intangible and future profits are measured) is trying to determine whether Basingers verbal participation actually constituted a specific contract, and whether her future worth could be measured in
a similar fashion. Basically, do big stars equate to big revenues? The jury apparently thought so, awarding Main Line $7.4 million in damages for breach of contract and adding $1.5
million for bad faith denial of the contract. Even in a town famous for star-producer disputes, the jury award astounded most observers (Sawicki, 1993). Should Main Lines
