a leader to take the job of leader of America. Others derided him, claiming that heading up community organizations was in no way a good experience for taking on the
office of president. Obama, however, did manage to show enough leadership moxie to win the election, and quite decisively. The question we
ask here, however, is what traits he has that contribute to his leadership abilities. Right now, with the country floundering around in a terrible recession, with health care costs escalating
and conflicts in the Middle East still out of hand, a leader that can come along and start chipping away at those scenarios, and start calming the waters, can do
a great deal. Lets first examine the leadership traits that got Obama to where he is today. An article written by
United Kingdom professor of American studies Scott Lucas sheds some interesting light on Obama, without either treating him derisively or lauding him as the next messiah. Lucas points out, and
quite rightfully so, that Obama rose quickly to the presidency, only taking the national state in 2004 when going to the senate as junior senator from Illinois. But Obama was
no novice in many areas - Lucas points out that his intelligence is "widely admired" as are his "guts and intelligence . . . to change the nature of Americas
relationship with the world," in the statement of former U.S. National Security advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski. Lucas further believes that Obama has
become a "quick study," based mainly in his background as a community organizer (Lucas 17). Though opponent Sarah Palin continually derided Obama for such a background, Lucas noted that a
