struggle in a place and time that most of us are not familiar with. Their stories, focusing on the struggle of the common individual, and the not so common individual,
in Russia are stories that truly offer us insight into many things, not the least of which is a look into the authors themselves. The following paper examines Crime and
Punishment by Feodor Dostoyevsky and Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy, discussing the autobiographical elements in each. Tolstoy "Count Leo Tolstoys tale

at first but find increasing happiness and fulfillment as their relationship deepens over time. The desperation and despair of one couple and the ever-growing warmth and devotion of the other
trace two separate choices in love and reveal the consequences of each" (Complete Sean Bean, 2004). This relationship is perhaps seen as quite symbolic as it makes a statement about
the life and society in Russia. The simplicity and the honesty are powerful elements that lead these characters to a sense of fulfillment despite the society that surrounds them.
