United States have some form of autism (1996). While today the condition is treatable, a generation ago, 90% of the people afflicted with the disorder were placed in institutions (1996).
This is unfortunate as many of the people with the disorder can lead happy lives and bring joy to their families. Autism is difficult to define because symptoms vary

do not seem to have any relationship with the onset of the condition (1996). A diagnosis of autism is made when a certain number of characteristics listed in the DSM-IV
