the history books refer only to the involvement of the United States, Great Britain, and Russia. Of course, innumerable other nations were involved in the conflict as well. This is
true for Australia, which not only supported the Allied powers in the war, but had to contend with direct attacks on national territory by the Japanese. Ultimately, the Australian involvement
in World War II is interesting because it was instigated at the behest of Great Britain, which in turn led to a strengthening of national ties with the United States,
directly impacting Australian involvement in the contemporary Iraq War. Premise 1: Instigated by Great Britain Australias involvement in World War II was precipitated by external interests. While
it is the case that Australia also participated in the First World War, the country had been hit hard by the economic collapse that impacted much of the world in
the late 1920s; by one point, unemployment in Australia had reached nearly 25%. Consequently, the countrys involvement in the next war might have been questionable if not for Australias status
as a dominion of Great Britain at the time (Donaldson 2011). In fact, the Prime Ministers speech upon entering the war stressed this aspect of the decision, status that: "Great
