"uncivilized" cultures there is a degree of prejudice and misunderstanding as two different cultures come in contact with one another. The following paper examines, separately and together, examines Dancing with
Strangers by Inga Clendinnen and The Original Australians by Josephine Flood. Dancing with Strangers In Inga Clendiunnens work the reader is presented with a very powerful, and i-depth,
examination of the arrival of the Europeans to Australia based on first hand accounts. The book offers up various personal perspectives from many of the men who arrived in Australia
and then examines the perspectives, interpreting and analyzing what the encounters and experiences may have been, or what they may have indicated. Based on the language and general assumption about
what many of the Europeans noted in their own personal works it is all but impossible to truly know what happened. As such her work is incredibly informative and entertaining
for it takes these accounts, examines them, and tries to delve beneath the obvious or written words. In this work the reader is also presented with what appears to
be a very unbiased look at the history of Australia, with the arrival of Europeans, based on both sides of the issue. In essence, the author is not siding with
one or the other, is not making one culture look worse or better than the other, and is ultimately leaving any decision or opinion concerning European arrival up to the
reader. At the same time it is also a work that clearly illustrates how two completely different cultures will inevitably have problems that cannot necessarily be resolved. There are too
many cultural gaps, too many elements of confusion and lack of understanding that lead these cultures to ultimately butt heads, misunderstand one another and thus perhaps fail at arriving at
