of 2006 many were overjoyed and many were anxious to see where the country of Chile would head. He was known for horrific actions, perhaps much like Saddam Hussein, and
yet he also demonstrated a skill at pulling Chile out of a dire economic position into a time of stability in many ways. The following paper examines his death, the
conditions of his death, and the influence of his life. Augusto Pinochet "Dr. Juan Ignacio Vergara, head of the medical team
that had been treating him, said he died at 2:15 p.m., a week after being hospitalized and undergoing angioplasty and another operation after an acute heart attack" (Kandell, 2006). The
doctor stated that his condition, after the heart attack, degenerated fast and he was put into intensive care where he died at the age of 91 (Kandell, 2006).
Pinochet had spent the last years of his life living essentially in exile, although living in his own country. It seems that many of
his supporters, and even his fellow military individuals, had slowly began to dismiss him and leave him alone: "During those last years he lived in near seclusion, mostly at his
home in Bucalemu, about 80 miles southwest of Santiago, scorned even by many of his former military colleagues and conservative civilian ideologues" (Kandell, 2006). Many believed that this was a
just ending to the life of the dictator, and more just than legal ramifications could have been to the dictator (Kandell, 2006).
