Athens to decorate fine pottery while simpler, undecorated wares fulfilled everyday household purposes" (Metropolitan Museum of Art, 2006). One vessel is an Attic Red Figure created by an individual referred
to as Antiphon Painter. It is a kylix piece, indicating it possesses a particular style of shape, and is an intricately painted vessel. The following paper examines and analyzes
this piece. Attic Red Figure by Antiphon Painter In relationship to the description of the piece it is noted, by the Krannert Art Museum (2006), where the piece
is apparently housed, it possesses the kylix shape which is "Short thick flaring stem, wide shallow bowl, fillet between stem and foot, wide foot, cylindrical handles" (Krannert Art Museum [2],
2006). This particular type of bowl was apparently used for drinking wine that was mixed with water and as such, because of its purpose, it possesses images of drinking. The
museum indicates that such cups often depicted drinkers "holding such a cup for drinking or playing games, such as kottabos, a game that consists of flinging a drop of wine
from the cup to hit a target" (Krannert Art Museum [2], 2006). In this cup there are such images as the exterior
possesses what is called a Komos, a celebration that consists of drinking and dancing and music (Krannert Art Museum [2], 2006). There are reserved areas which are essentially left the
color of the natural clay, a red color, and the exterior illustrates "side of foot, base line for exterior figures" (Krannert Art Museum [2], 2006). This author also indicates that
on the exterior there is what is known as a tondo which is the center area that possesses a band that meanders around a figure (Krannert Art Mueusm [2], 2006).
