INTRODUCTION The job of teacher is inclusive of a number of diverse variables that are ever evolving and in need of individualization to each student. In addition to the
academic curriculum and classroom management, the teacher is also responsible for addressing the behavioral problems of the student. Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) with or without Hyperactivity is becoming an
increasingly prevalent problem. ADD children are at higher risk for learning, behavioral, and emotional problems. "Attention encompasses both cognitive and behavioral concepts. Behaviorally, attention is defined
and studied by identifying specific, overt actions or responses (e.g., orientation to a particular object) and examining the variables and functional relationships that operate to control those behaviors. Such
overt "attentive behavior" can be assessed directly by observing the individual interacting with his or her environment, or indirectly by asking others familiar with the individual to rate the occurrence
of the behaviors. Attention also denotes a set of covert cognitive processes. Cognitive attention is not directly observable because it occurs internally; however, underlying cognitive processes can still
be subject to scientific analysis, in that assumptions are made about the correspondence between covert processes and observable phenomena believed to arise from such processes" (Warner-Rogers et al, 2000, p.
520). Inattention is so often associated with overactive and impulsive behavior that hyperactivity is often included in the description, even when it may not be a factor in the
students ability to learn. Most research is centered on the relationship between inattention and hyperactivity (Warner-Rogers et al, 2000). The teacher is in a unique position of
